Kurt Vonnegut (RIP) says:

I urge you to notice when you’re happy. Look around and say, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”

SUNDAY BREEZE III–COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!

Get Out of the Concrete Jungle

concretewall.jpg

Monday through Saturday is work intensive in Taiwan. Grinding your life out on a scooter and taking in all the sights and sounds of the buildings and roads? Sunday is for pleasure. Get out of the concrete jungle and see some nature. Feel the Sunday Breeze in your hair. The sun on your skin.

My grandfather always taught me that the things that are easy, aren’t really worth it. The things that take a bit of time are always much better.

SundayBreeze is here with Team Canada, Soundmind, Jr/Megan, Hooker and General Turkeyleg Jenkins III aka MoRelius. Spike slushies. Caribbean food where it’s meant to be eaten.

Take the MRT. Enter at your own risk. Don’t run around the pool. And have as much fun as you can have in the lush green jungles of Danshui. See you there.

Sunday Breeze Part II– Team Canada is in the Building

team-canada.jpg

It’s that time of the week again. Sunday is almost here and the weather is looking fantastic. As we do with these things, we are changing it up. First, all the way from the Great White North, we are going to have Team Canada pumping out the jams. What? You know about these masters of mash-up. As a little taste, here is a link with some GnR and NERD. As a bonus treat from our good friends at SpaceBallers is Party Like a RockStar. Had some requests for that one at City Swim and it’s my summer jam of the moment.

 spikedlogo4.jpg

We are adding Spiked Slushies to the menu from The Dive in Taichung. Rumor has it that the flavor will be Gin and Juice. What up, Snoop?

That’s not all. A Taste of the Caribbean will be sharing some of their delicious delights with pool goers this Sunday. I can smell the curry from here and it smells good.

Mission I complete. Up next–Mission II June 24th with Team Canada

A big shout all to all the people who came on Sunday. Hope you had a great time. Here are some photos.

Also some amazing photos from Joanna Reese on her blog. Don’t just look at the party pics. She’s got some great ones in there
http://jorees.wordpress.com/

Here are some of the things I’ve learned from the first one:

1. Please take the MRT to Hongshulin. As much as we stressed that before, some people got a cab and it took forever to get here. On the other hand, many people took the MRT and then a cab and made it here within a half hour from Taipei Main. So please please please…take the MRT, then a cab. Or drive a scooter. Because traffic towards Danshui is craaaaaaazy on Sundays.

2. If you are around the pool, please don’t run. I saw a lot of bloody backs, necks, and legs. One person even had to go to the hospital. Remember what your teacher used to tell you in the hallway…DON’T RUN!

All right. Enough lectures. It’s on to more fun. We are doing it all again this Sunday, June 24th. And this time with MASSIVE headliners Team Canada. Check their website for audio and video and check back here all week as i will be begging them for exclusive tracks to post up.

Once again, big thanks to everyone who came out and had a great time. The summer just keeps getting better and better.

It’s Official…THE PARTY IS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tony vs. Paris vs. the Beastie conundrum

sundaybreezebannerjune17.gif

We succumbed to Mother Nature’s demand and are pointedly looking forward to this Sunday’s affair. Nothing has changed except the date. Tell your friend’s friends.

sopranos.jpg

I have to admit that I’ve never seen one minute of The Sopranos. I didn’t watch or bit torrent the final episode. But I dig the fade to black ending. No real conclusion. Just Journey and tension. Isn’t that how life is? In Infernal Affairs and The Divine Comedy, the 9th level of hell is to keep doing what you are doing endlessly. Ambiguity. You can’t stop. Don’t Stop Believin’. Death to Tony Soprano. Long Live Tony Soprano.

paris.jpg

What song should have been playing when Paris Hilton was being taken from her mansion back to her cell? Or at the ‘get-out-of-jail’ party her father is trying to sell to nightclubs in Vegas? Jail House Rock would just be too easy. Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash. I Fought the Law by The Clash. I think the best answer for the downtrodden celebutante is her own “smash” hit, Stars Are Blind.

themixup.jpg

For most of my life, I have been a Beastie Boy fan. I have fought for my right to party at three Tibetan Freedom concerts (NY/DC/Taipei stand up), dug their infectious grooves on all but their last album and even argued endlessly about who the fourth Beastie Boy really is (my vote is Ricky Powell by a hair over Money Mark). This week, I was pleased and slightly conflicted as I found a website that had their new instrumental album, The Mix Up, downloadable for free. As a huge fan of their last foray into instrumentalism, The In Sound From Way Out, it was just what I needed to get me though the afternoons staring at a computer screen. I think it’s a perfect album for summer while laying on the beach with a speaker attached to your iPod. Not too loud, but just blending into the beautiful surroundings. I’m especially fond of the last half starting with Electric Worm

Now, here’s where I feel my stomach starting to turn. I want to give everyone the link cause I think The Mix Up is good and I dig putting people on to good music. But I realize that linking up a whole album is pretty bad even if only 50 people download it. That’s 50 people that might not buy it. And it’s not like this is going to be doing *N’SYNC numbers anytime soon. But I’m sure it will take months to get to Taiwan (hell, it’s not even out yet). So here lies the conundrum. The solution is this…I have hidden a few links inside this post (Hint–they are not under Big Pussy or near P.Hilt’s sombrero). If you take the time out of your life to find it, then that means you are a true Beasties fan and deserve to hear the music. Make sure and order a T-shirt online from them as a payment. And if you really want the whole album, email me at DJMarcusA(at)gmail.com and I’ll get it to you.

SundayBreeze Pool Party is Postponed for One Week Until June 17th

after a lot of careful thought and consideration, we have finally given in to mother nature’s demands and the party has been put off for one week. While it doesn’t look terrible out right now, the weather doesn’t make us feel like i want to go out and jump in the water. We will have the exact same party next week (thanks TKFarm) and then we have a whole lot of surprises lined up for the rest of the summer. Thank you for your support

The Question On Everyone’s Mind

I just got back from a meeting with Mother Nature and she’s not really cooperating at the moment. But don’t give up hope. Basically, things are like this. A pool party really isn’t a party without some damn sunshine. And since the pool is outdoors, that means that if it is raining, the party is off. BUT, we are waiting for Mother Nature to decide our fate until Sunday morning. That means that if it clears up between now and then, it’s a go. Party promotion key rule #5460: Don’t cancel party until the day of party.

Just to be clear…check this site right here on Sunday morning for cancellation. As of right now(Friday noon), the party is on.

In Chinese:

請在週日早上到這個網站確定派對是否取消。截至目前(週五中午),派對是會舉行的。

A New Logo…A New Announcement…A Lot of Love

sb_logo.jpgAll right ladies and gentleman, I have plenty of stuff to announce. With the overwhelming response we’ve recieved from EVERYONE, we talked to management and it looks like we can do this party (approx) every other Sunday for the rest of the summer. So the next official SundayBreeze pool party is Sunday, June 24th. But that’s not all, we are going to be featuring Special Secret Guests, one of the best hip-hop duos in the world. They will be killing the ones and twos along with SoundMind, Hooker, Jr/Megan, and Marcus Aurelius. But that’s not all, we are going to have the Carribean Wellness Cafe serving delicious treats and Spiked Bellini’s from The Dive in Taichung. It’s shaping up to be a big one.

Just wanted to mention a few people who will be making it out on Sunday because they are special. First up is Kassandra, and if you know her, you know that she knows how to Kassandrabrate for this Kassandrapalooza.

kass.jpg

Next on the agenda is Em Xiao Jia. Just returning from Canada and getting back into the swing of things in Taipei, Emily is one of the nicest people (with a great taste in music) that you will ever meet. If you see her Sunday, you better buy her a drink for her birthday.

 emily.jpg

What? There’s more? Hell yeah. DJ Schism has been making a lot of noise while playing the prime slots at the Vice parties and some other venues. He will be edging near 30 on Sunday also.

schsim.jpg

It’s also Alita’s 29th birthday for the 7th time, but I’m at work and don’t have a picture of her here. And she probably warrents her own post.

And one last thing, one great girl, Aisha, is leaving forever. I feel happy that she is coming to celebrate one of her last days in Taiwan with us. She always talked about music with me and sent me an MP3 recently that I thought I would share with everyone.

Shaggy–In the Summertime

What’s your favorite Summertime Jam and Why?

All right. Less than one week till the best summer of your life begins. I’m doing some research on Summertime songs and I need your help. What is your favorite Summertime song? Is the insanity of Summertime by Jazzy Jeff? What about Summer Breeze? What song, the second you hear it, makes you think of BBQs, drinks by the pool, the beach, bikinis etc? Please comment here, on facebook, or email me at DJMarcusA (at) gmail.com.

For me, summertime is all about G-funk. So here is a forgotten gem that I’ve been playing for the last couple days to get my mind right.
